Orange County, VA – Orange County Economic Development and the Quad County Business Summit Planning Committee are pleased to announce this year’s Summit will include keynote speaker, Kiley Doll, a local serial entrepreneur. Kiley is passionate about the empowerment of struggling entrepreneurs and uses every challenge she has encountered during her career to mentor budding business owners. Her enthusiasm for progress has led to the pursuit of a prosperous career consulting and working with household brands like Amazon, EO, and Berkshire Hathaway.
The Summit will also feature a local business owner panel discussion with live Q & A. Panelists include, Peter Rice, Chairman of BoxInBoxOut, LLC located in Madison County, Andrew Mavraganis, COO & CFO of Spire Collective located in Fluvanna County, and Shannon Horton General Manager of Horton Vineyards located in Orange County.
We will round out the Summit with the QuadTank, a winner takes all pitch competition. To date, $6,750 has been raised to award to the winner of the Competition. Last year, Orange County Economic Development hosted the Quad County Business Summit and introduced the first ever QuadTank Pitch Competition, at which Jennifer Bryington was the finalist and winner. After taking home the grand prize, she took her busy home-based bakery business, JB Cakes to a storefront operation and sandwich shop in Rhoadesville.
The Orange County Economic Development Office is pleased to announce it will co-host the 2020 QuadTank Pitch Competition and Quad County Business Summit along with the Economic Development Offices of Greene County, Louisa County, and Fluvanna County, the Fluvanna Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center on November 17, 2020. The QuadTank Pitch Competition will take place from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and the Quad County Business Summit from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
The 5th Annual Quad County Business Summit will be all virtual. The event will feature keynote speaker Sandy Sponaugle from Platinum PR. Participants will also hear from Hope Lawrence of Hudson Henry Baking Company on how her Fluvanna business has reached its current level of success. The Summit will also include breakout sessions and opportunities for virtual networking. The event is free for Quad County business owners. Interested participants can register at www.qcbsummit.com
“In light of current pandemic, the Quad County Business Summit Planning Committee decided to take these events virtual to ensure that our rural entrepreneurs and businesses owners would still have access to this valuable network of resources,” noted Rose Deal, Project Manager for Orange County Economic Development.
Similar to last year, The Summit will also include the QuadTank, a winner take all pitch competition. The QuadTank is available for new or current business owners from the participating counties. Businesses should prepare a business plan and pitch their plan to the panel of judges. The final presentations and judge questions will be hosted live the morning of November 17th, for all participants to view. The grand prize for the QuadTank is $5,000. Last year’s winner was JB Cakes of Orange County.
This year the Quad Counties are inviting Madison County businesses to participate in the Summit as special guests! Madison County entrepreneurs can view the QuadTank and participate in the Summit with fellow Central Virginia business owners.

Orange County, VA – Orange County is pleased to announce that JB Cakes, winner of the 2019 QuadTank Pitch Competition is officially open for business in their new retail storefront. JB Cakes offers breakfast, lunch, and several varieties of sweet treats. Owner and operator, Jennifer Bryington, opened the business out of her home and quickly outgrew the space.
In early October 2019, Bryington competed against three finalists in the QuadTank Pitch Competition held during the Quad County Business Summit. She took home the grand prize of $4,750 which was quickly put to use in her new storefront. Bryington noted, “The prize money has definitely been put to good use. The opportunity to grow and expand business in the community is priceless. I look forward to serving our community for many years to come!”
Phil Geer, Director of Economic Development stated, “We are incredibly proud that Orange County’s own JB Cakes won the first ever QuadTank Pitch Competition and has put the prize money to good use. Her business is filling a need for that area of the County and we’re confident that JB Cakes will be very successful for many years to come.”

The 4th annual Quad County Business Summit was held at Madison at the Mill on October 2, 2019. Small business owners and entrepreneurs from Greene, Orange, Louisa, and Fluvanna gathered to hear from various professionals on topics including; business survival, human resources, and social media marketing. The day was kicked off with a motivational speech delivered by Brett Leake on how "Fun Gets Work Done." Also in attendance was Doug Bouton, Greene County native, and the co-founder of Halo Top Creamery. Bouton also participated in a Q&A session regarding the business success story of Halo Top.
The Summit concluded with a live pitch competition where one business from each of the four localities pitched their business idea to a panel of judges, for a chance to win $4,750. The winning business was JB Cakes of Orange.
